  • Can you make a 4’x8’ ECOR panel?

    Yes, depending on the performance specification and requirement, we can create a panels in 4’ x 8’ or larger and at varying thicknesses.

  • What size does ECOR material come in?

    We currently sell ECOR raw panels in 2’ x 8’ sheets, and our new factory (set to open in spring 2014) will be producing a new industrial 4’ x 10’ panel. Of course, we can custom cut or combine panel products to configure any size requirement.

  • What are the main ECOR products?

    ECOR comes in two basic forms – FlatCOR™ – (flat panels) and WavCOR™ – (corrugated panels). From these two basics we create all kinds of engineered design configurations based on performance specifications and specialized application design.

    We also make core material such as HoneyCOR™ and SliceCOR™ – which are designs that can be purchased separately.

    Finally, we make three-dimensional environmental structural panels (ESPs) including WavCOR ESP and HoneyCOR ESP. ESPs are stressed-skin panels created in varying thicknesses and are comprised of an interior core material sandwiched between two exterior flat faces all laminated together to form a very strong, lightweight panel.

  • What is ECOR made of?

    ECOR is a USDA certified 100% Bio-based, recycled product made from 100% cellulose fiber materials. Fiber sources include an unlimited variety of readily available, low-cost, underutilized, and waste raw material sources. Including old corrugated cardboard (OCC), old newspaper (ONP), office paper, discarded wood chips, residual agricultural fibers including Bovine Processed Fiber (BPF), kenaf, oat, coffee, coconut, and other waste fibers available worldwide.

  • What is ECOR®?

    ECOR® is a new, specialty product that is an environmentally-friendly composite design material. It can be an alternative to traditional wood, particleboard and fiberboard as well as other products including aluminum, plastic, and FRP composites.

  • Is ECOR suitable for construction?

    No, currently ECOR is used for non primary structure applications. We have not tested it for construction, however we are in development of high strength, durable ECOR products, and will be pursuing construction applications in the future.

  • What is ECOR used for?

    Due to extreme light-weight, performance and design versatility characteristics, ECOR is ideal for an almost limitless number of applications. Currently, ECOR is being used in the following applications:

    • Signage and way-finding
    • Trade show and retail displays
    • POP displays
    • Stage & set construction
    • Hanging and wall-mounted installations
    • Room dividers and partitions
    • Custom cases
    • Containers and packaging
  • Can ECOR be curved?

    Absolutely. Unlike most commodity or other composite products, we can produce all curves to specification: compound curves, custom radii – virtually any type of shape. You can also produce these curves and shapes yourself utilizing our patent pending designs and methods.

  • Is ECOR suitable for construction?

    No, currently ECOR is used for non primary structure applications. We have not tested it for construction, however we are in development of high strength, durable ECOR products, and will be pursuing construction applications in the future.

  • Is ECOR fireproof?

    In coated form ECOR panels are fireproof – they are currently Class 1/A rated. We are also researching and developing a new version of ECOR High Performance, which includes non-toxic fireproof additives.

  • Is ECOR ultraviolet (UV) resistant?

    In raw form, ECOR panels are UV resistant when used in a water-safe, interior application. However, for exterior applications, UV resistance is more a function of any added binder or coating. We do not at this time have ECOR products for these applications but plan to in the future.

  • What about under water or outdoor applications?

    ECOR provides a tremendous substrate that readily accepts a broad variety of coatings. We have the capability of adding resins and other sealants to the ECOR production process for waterproofing. High Performance ECOR products come in waterproof and water-resistant varieties and can be used outdoors.

  • Is ECOR waterproof?

    In raw form, ECOR panels are not waterproof. However, we have a wide variety of innovative non-toxic and low/no VOC water-resistant finishes we use regularly, and can recommend for specific applications. These coatings are capable of water resistant and water proof finishes.

  • Can ECOR be curved?

    Absolutely. Unlike most commodity or other composite products, we can produce all curves to specification: compound curves, custom radii – virtually any type of shape. You can also produce these curves and shapes yourself utilizing our patent pending designs and methods.

  • How much do ECOR panels weigh?

    A 2’x8’ FlatCOR panel weighs roughly 1/2 lb/sf or 8 lbs. One of the beautiful characteristics of ECOR is that the weight of the final product can be custom-engineered to the performance requirement and application. Unnecessary weight or structure can be extracted and ‘lightness’ can be added without sacrificing performance.

  • How strong are ECOR panels?

    ECOR 1” thick structural panels (ESP’s) average 3X the strength-to-weight ratio of traditional commodity building materials like particleboard, plywood and MDF.

    Exactly how strong the panels are will depend on the composition and engineering of the different panel components specified for the application.

  • How are your panels shipped?

    We use all forms of transport that are the most economical and meet the customers’ requirements.

  • What are your lead times?

    Lead times vary depending on the product type and size of the order. For basic raw panels (FlatCOR & WavCOR), we typically have some available inventory on hand and can ship rush orders within 3-5 days. If we need to produce special orders for panels, lead times can range from 2-6 weeks or more.

  • How much does ECOR cost?

    Depending on the product required, basic raw panels are priced between $6 -$12 PSF, cores from $3-5 PSF and for ESP’s (depending on thickness/configuration) $12-24 PSF. Prices are quoted on a project basis for custom engineered composite solutions.

  • Can you make a 4’x8’ ECOR panel?

  • Do you make custom prototypes?

    Yes, absolutely. We can work with your designs, design team and from CAD/CAM drawings and other renderings. We can rapid prototype and recommend design modifications to meet your specifications. If you are a business or government agency and are developing a new product line, we are happy to work with you to create prototypes, develop pricing and modeling, as well as prepare production specifications for your company projects.

  • Do you provide any design services?

  • What makes ECOR so green?

    ECOR is uniquely sustainable and is made of 100% organic cellulose fibers. It contains no toxic adhesives, no additives, no formaldehyde, or off-gassing and has virtually zero airborne VOCs (volatile organic compounds otherwise known as toxins or other carcinogens).

  • Can you recycle/reuse ECOR?

    ECOR is one of the best materials available to meet a ‘reduce-reuse-recycle’ sustainability initiative because it comes from organic sources. It is easy to reuse or reconfigure in either a manufacturing or end use setting, and it is 100% recyclable.

    Additionally, our ReCOR™ Program will recover ECOR panels and products from clients after use at no cost to the client, and in some cases, we will pay the client for them. (This offer only applies with panels that have not been treated with any type of toxic adhesives, resins, paints, etc.). Our YourCOR™ program utilizes your company’s raw material stream (i.e., wood cuttings, offcuts, paper waste, cardboard, agricultural waste, etc.) to create new ECOR panels and products for your company’s use. These unique ECOR programs represent the next generation of true lifecycle resource management and sustainable business efforts.

  • What is ECOR like to work with?

    ECOR is a dream product to work with and any shop that fabricates wood, particleboard, plywood, and/or MDF has the basic tools to work with ECOR. You can saw and cut ECOR easily without wearing gloves because it is non-toxic, doesn’t splinter and won’t expel any particulates or chips.

  • How do I fasten things to ECOR?

    With ECOR, depending on the application and product considered, you can use screws, staples, pop rivets, bolts, RTA fasteners, insert fasteners and biscuit joinery to fasten structures or hardware together. For more structural applications, we recommend filling the panel cells with reinforced epoxy or other filler material, or wood inserts or engineered hard points in combination with fasteners.

  • How do I adhere ECOR panels?

    Any white glue works well to bond panels together (for sandwich panels). Contact cements work well when constructing mitered corners, box beams, or for applying laminates and veneers in a cold press.

  • What laminates and/or coatings can I use with ECOR?

    ECOR material in its raw form is hydroscopic, which means it will absorb just about any liquid very readily. Additionally, the raised texture of ECOR provide excellent adhesion opportunities. You can use virtually any laminate and/or veneer – anything you would use with traditional wood or other panel products works well with ECOR. In fact, all kinds of textured finishes, plasters, fiberglass, stains, printing, films and all colors and types of paints bind extremely well with ECOR.

  • How do I curve ECOR?

    There are 2 ways to make ECOR curves yourself:

    1. You can curve a panel to the shape of a curved frame by bending the face and core components after applying adhesive to their common surfaces, to a mold frame and then letting the assembly dry and harden. No heat is required.
    2. You can also kerf the panel, making a series of cuts and then bending the panel. Here, the radius of the curve will be determined by the spacing of the cuts, width of the cuts themselves, and depth of the cuts. For a permanent curve, you can apply glue into the cuts, bend the panel to form, and secure the assembly until dry.

    Alternatively, you can pre-order a custom form or shape to your exact specification and we will produce it and send it to you ready-made.

  • How much do ECOR panels weigh?
